Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Ophthalmology, Glaucoma - Full Time

Core Qualifications

• Education: Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Previous experience as an ARNP or a comparable position in a hospital and/or clinical setting. Previous experience in an eye care setting preferred.
• Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida APRN License CPR and ACLS certification required. Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for Nurse Practitioners preferred

Department Specific Functions

• Examination of Glaucoma Patients includes, but not limited to the following:
• Eliciting and recording chief complaint and interval history.
• Eliciting and recording patient and family medical history.
• Measurement of visual acuity at a distance and near.
• Lensometry: measurement of the optical characteristics of spectacle lenses with the lensometer and/or auto lensometer.
• Retinoscopy Refraction: using phoropter, auto refractor, and trial frame at distance and near.
• Confrontation visual fields and Amsler grid testing.
• Pupillary evaluation.
• Central corneal thickness measurements using portable handheld pachymeter.
• Intraocular pressure assessment: Goldmann applanation tonometry Handheld electronic tonometry Rebound tonometry
• Administering visual fields examination: Confrontation visual field Humphrey visual field Portable head mounted visual field
• Assist physician with patient care (monitoring vitals and assist if patient distress) during office-based procedures: Laser procedures: capsulotomy, trabeculoplasty, iridotomy Minor slit lamp procedures: suture removal, bleb needling
• Administration of ocular imaging including OCT (optical coherence tomography) and ocular photography (slit lamp, fundus and external photography).
• Interpretation of glaucoma testing including visual field, OCT, and photographs.
• Insertion and removal of hard, soft and contact lenses, including those used for bandage of the cornea.
• Administration of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents.
• Binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy.
• Observe refractive abnormalities and ocular disease.
• Prescription of eyeglasses, contact lenses, and low vision aids.
• Examining patients of all ages, including children and the elderly.
