Advanced Practice Provider - Residency/Fellowship - Behavioral Health

Allegheny Health Network’s Advanced Practice Provider Residency Program is a year-long integrated learning experience for new graduate nurse practitioners and physician assistants transitioning from academia to clinical practice. Participants receive dedicated didactic and procedural education aligned with their specialty department and perform essential skills within their scope of practice under preceptor supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate patient care, including recording medical history, physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, discharge planning, and accurate medical record documentation (40%).
  • Participate in, develop, and implement performance and/or quality improvement initiatives; create educational presentations for the healthcare team (10%).
  • Communicate and coordinate patient care with patients, families, community health services, and the interdisciplinary team; consult attending physicians for plans of care or clinical decisions outside the APP’s knowledge-base or scope (15%).
  • Competently perform advanced diagnostic and/or therapeutic interventions as outlined in the network practice agreement (20%).
  • Engage in educational seminars, grand rounds, and other didactic learning required for specialty role performance (15%).
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited program and certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or graduate from a PA State Board of Nursing Approved Master’s or Post-Master’s program.
  • PA Physician Assistant License and ongoing successful re-certification as PA-C (NCCPA) or current State of PA RN licensure or current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) and ongoing successful re-certification; Certified Nurse Practitioner License (AANP or ANCC).
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • 1 year of experience with electronic medical records.
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
