Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Main Campus Hospital Medicine II

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified Family/Adult/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our inpatient Hospital Medicine team at Main Campus. This role involves providing advanced nursing and medical care to patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions. The provider will work collaboratively with a physician, functioning to the top of their license in a high-acuity care setting. Coverage may include future Hospital Medicine locations, with Main Campus as the home site.

The standard hours for this role are 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities required. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough medical histories, perform complete physical examinations, and initiate appropriate lab, radiology, or other diagnostic tests to evaluate illness.
• Scrutinize lab data for new and former patients to establish current health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
• Work collaboratively with a supervising physician.
• Perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other diagnostic procedures to identify pathophysiologic processes.
• Perform routine procedures such as injections, suturing, wound care, and managing infections or trauma, including assisting in surgeries and responding to life-threatening situations.
• Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by state prescriptive authority and institutional policy.
• Perform specialized procedures (e.g., bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, blood draws, IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, paracentesis) following approval by the Credentialing Board.
• Provide patient education on diseases, treatments, side effects, hazards, and preventive health maintenance (e.g., diet, smoking cessation).
• Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care.
• Refer patients to specialists as needed for consultation or specialized treatment.
• Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between patients and the multidisciplinary care team.
• Assist in research follow-up studies and data analysis.
• Participate in quality monitoring through periodic review of records and treatment plans.
• Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
• Serve as a clinical preceptor for PA/APRN students and other health professionals, and may act as faculty for onboarding new employees.
• Demonstrate high ethical standards, compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to excellent patient care.
• Take call and work off-shift hours, including weekends, holidays, and possibly nights, with some special procedure privileging required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
• For APRNs: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required upon hire or within 3 years for external hires or internal transitions to an APRN role.
• For PAs: Graduate of an ARC-approved Physician Assistant Program; Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and applicable state license.

Certifications

• For APRNs:
  • Current RN and APRN licensure in the applicable state.
  • National certification as an APRN by a state-recognized organization.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required based on work setting.
• For PAs:
  • Current certification through the NCCPA (or successor).
  • Licensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio.
  • Physician Supervision Agreement or signed addendum.
  • Privileged by the institution’s Credentialing Board.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • ACLS or PALS may be required based on work setting.
  • For Homecare/Hospice field staff: Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance with $100,000/$300,000 coverage.

Work Experience

Two years of clinical advanced practice nursing (APRN) or relative clinical experience (PA) is preferred but not required. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
• Manual and finger dexterity, along with eye/hand coordination for physical examinations.
• Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

Annual salary range for new hires: $101,900 – $173,220. Actual compensation may vary based on job responsibilities, relevant experience, skills, scheduling requirements, education, and area of licensure. The range reflects full-time (1.0 FTE) positions; PRN roles are compensated hourly.
