Advanced Practice Provider ( NP/PA) General Neurology II

About the Role

Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team as an independent provider. You will work collaboratively with fellow APPs and physicians to deliver high-quality neurological care, primarily based at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus with regional support responsibilities that may include coverage at Fairview Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital, and Teleneurology sites.

In this role, you will evaluate, manage, and treat patients with a wide range of neurological conditions. We encourage applications from energetic providers with excellent clinical skills and a working knowledge of neurological disorders. Neurology experience is preferred; however, newly licensed candidates with demonstrated interest in neurology are welcome to apply. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients with new or established neurological disorders to diagnose, initiate, and execute treatment plans.
• Exercise autonomy in medical decision-making while collaborating with staff physicians and various members of the healthcare team.
• Counsel and educate neurological patients and their families.
• Conduct thorough medical histories, perform complete physical examinations (where indicated), and initiate appropriate lab, radiology, or other special tests required for evaluation of illness.
• Scrutinize lab data to establish a record of the patient’s current health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
• Work in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures as credentialed and privileged.
• Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
• Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license through applicable state board and Cleveland Clinic policies.
• Educate patients and answer questions regarding their disease, treatments, related drug and treatment side effects, and hazards.
• Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care.
• Refer patients to specialists as appropriate for consultation or specialized health resources and treatment.
• Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between the patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team or with other specialty areas as necessary.
• Participate in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a periodic basis to assure quality care.
• Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
• Support professional development of the healthcare team.
• Promote translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research.
• May conduct research studies, assist in data collection and analysis, serve as a clinical preceptor for students, or onboard new caregivers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s).
• Must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s).
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) may be required based upon work setting.
• Must have arrangements with at least one physician in accordance with requirements set forth by the State Board of Nursing in applicable states.
• Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals.
• Oral and written communication in English.

Qualifications

• Effective 05/01/2014: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role.
• Graduate of an accredited APRN program.
• If in neonatal care service area, Master’s Degree is required upon hire.
• Related clinical experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• May require exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Schedule

Various models considered, including 4 ten-hour shifts or 3 thirteen-hour shifts per week.

Pay

Pay range for new hires: $101,900.00 – $173,220.00 annually. Actual compensation may be higher or lower than the standard range, depending on factors such as job responsibilities, relevant experience, skills, scheduling requirements, education, and area of licensure. The listed range is based on a full-time (1.0 FTE) position.
