Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA/APP)-Neurocritical Care
About the role
The position at UVA Health in the Nerancy Neurocritical Care Unit (NNICU) and Neurologic Intermediate Care Unit (NIMU) offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with interest in critical care and neurology. Preferred experience includes 1-2 years of hospital-based medicine, including critical care medicine, but open and eager to train new graduates with a thorough orientation. Required Licensure for the position is PA-C or AGAC-NP.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional services to evaluate and treat critically ill patients with an underlying neurologic diagnosis.
- Perform bedside procedures such as, but not limited to, central line placement, arterial line placement, midline placement, lumbar puncture, and bronchoscopy.
- Collaborate with Neurology and Neurosurgery teams in multi-disciplinary approach for patient management.
- Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, and communicate effectively with other team members.
- Evaluate and analyze patient responses to disease processes and therapeutic interventions.
- Document comprehensive histories and physical exams.
- Provide information, education, and support to patients/families regarding disease processes and treatment plans.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health credentialing and privileges.
- Participate in the clinical experience of students, interns, and residents as appropriate.
- Meet quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health.
- Serve as a clinical resource to nursing, medical, and allied health care practitioners.
- Update practice through continuing education by attending conferences, rounds, reports, lectures, journal clubs, and regional/national professional conferences.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
- Experience: Department and unit specific.
- Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
Qualifications
- Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
- May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $129,323.00 - $185,265.60 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
