About the role

Weissman Cancer Center, part of Cleveland Clinic's Martin North Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center, is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for an outpatient hematology oncology position.

Responsibilities

  • Treat adult hematology oncology patients
  • Collaborate with staff physicians
  • Evaluate anemia consults
  • Manage patients requiring symptoms management, assessment, diagnosis, and orders
  • Perform bone marrow biopsies
  • Work M-F 8am-5pm, with periodic weekend coverage and call after hours
  • Conduct thorough medical histories and physical examinations
  • Initiate appropriate lab, radiology tests, and other special tests
  • Prescribe and monitor medications
  • Perform specialized procedures such as bone marrow aspirations, biopsies, and harvest
  • Provide information and answer routine questions about patients' disease
  • Educate patients about their disease, treatments, and related drug side effects
  • Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members
  • Refer patients to specialists as needed
  • Serve as a liaison between patient and other members of the multi-disciplinary care team
  • Perform research follow-up studies
  • Assist in data analysis
  • Review records and treatment plans for patient outcomes periodically
  • Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • May serve as a clinical preceptor for PA/APRN students and other health professionals
  • May serve as a faculty member for onboarding new employees

Requirements

  • Preferred APP experience, but new graduates with experience in hematology or oncology may be considered
  • Must be licensed as an RN in applicable states and certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization recognized by the state Board of Nursing
  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Must have a Physician Supervision Agreement and signed addendum to Physician Supervision Agreement
  • Must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals
  • Related clinical experience preferred

Qualifications

  • MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role
  • Graduate of an accredited APRN program
  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies and/or higher degree obtained from a program recognized by their practicing states Licensing Board
