An Advanced Practice Provider III (APP III) is a direct patient care provider licensed in the State of Florida and/or Georgia, delivering medical services within their scope of practice under physician supervision. This role provides patient care with advanced knowledge of a subspecialty service in outpatient and/or inpatient settings, performs procedures/consults, spends less than 50% of time in the OR, and/or works in the NICU.
Responsibilities
- Provides timely and appropriate referrals for patients needing further medical care and services.
- Responds to consults, schedules procedures, and handles discharge planning as appropriate.
- Educates and counsels patients/families on health care, including routine health maintenance.
- May provide education and instruction to residents and students.
- Performs or assists with higher-complexity procedures in clinic or inpatient units.
- Monitors and manages invasive and/or medical devices, including placement within scope of practice.
- May manage care of pre/post-operative and pre/post-procedural patients.
- Formulates comprehensive health management plans for high-acuity, complex patients in collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals, including progress notes, narrative discharge summaries, and consultations.
- Facilitates patient participation in health care decisions.
- Enters pertinent clinical information in the patient’s medical record accurately and timely, following established compliance and billing guidelines.
- Documents and closes open encounters, MyChart messages, and other EMR communications per institutional requirements.
- Call coverage may be required based on departmental needs.
- Obtains patient histories, performs physical examinations, and/or diagnostic/therapeutic procedures for patients with high complexity.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests.
- Reviews, prescribes, and/or recommends medications and treatments to patients; may provide related education.
- Performs all other assigned duties.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in an outpatient/inpatient setting.
- Master’s degree in Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
- Up to 25% travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner License – required at time of hire.
- Physician Assistant License – required at time of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required at time of hire (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – preferred at time of hire.
- PALS certification – preferred at time of hire.
- Certification in specialty/subspecialty as required by the department.
Provides services to all UF Health hospitals, clinics, and affiliated facilities as required.
