Advanced Practice Provider, Comprehensive Gynecology

About the role

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Chicago has 114 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off-site locations. The department handles over 60,000 outpatient visits, 25,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,000 gynecological surgeries annually. It prioritizes teaching, research, and high-quality clinical care.

Responsibilities

• Independently sees patients in Hyde Park and offsite clinics
• Administers, orders, and interprets diagnostic tests
• Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition
• Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens
• Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care
• Prescribes therapy or medication
• Performs biopsies and contraceptive procedures
• Visits and observes patients on hospital rounds or house calls
• Updates charts, orders therapy, and reports back to the physician
• Orders medical and laboratory supplies and equipment
• Designs patient education programs
• Evaluates goals and outcomes
• Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions
• Has a deep understanding and response to adverse drug reactions
• Develops and coordinates APP training and professional development activities

Requirements

• Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college
• Knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline
• Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required
• Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO)

Qualifications

• Advanced nursing degree from an accredited school/college of nursing
• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

• Willingness to enter into a written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire
• Willingness to apply for a controlled substance license and DEA number
• Willingness to be privileged and credentialed through the University of Chicago Medical Staff Office prior to start date
