Advanced Practice Provider - Cardiothoracic Surgery

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Examines, diagnoses, and provides a broad scope of cardiac and thoracic surgical treatments
  • Aids during cardiac surgery including coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic, mitral, tricuspid valve repair/or replacement, aortic aneurysm repair, as well as additional cardiac procedures as needed
  • Aids during thoracic surgery including but not limited to diagnostic and therapeutic thoracic procedures: lobectomy, wedge resection, decortication, as well as additional lung and thoracic surgical procedures as needed.
  • Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective, and objective findings. Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Utilizes the STS risk calculators as a part of surgical assessment for patients and will be familiar with new studies, emerging technology and medications beneficial to the patients being treated.
  • Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practice guidelines. Orders appropriate medical and surgical procedures in accordance with State law and practice guidelines.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatments.
  • Educates patients regarding health, illness prevention, and healing. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documenting clearly and concisely.
  • Trades patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration.
  • Maintains quality of clinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professional growth.

Education

  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant course of study and certification as appropriate to the incumbent’s license

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

  • Unrestricted Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Oregon.
  • Physician Assistant requires NCCPA certification. Nurse Practitioner requires AANC, NCCP, or AANP, AMCB certification.
  • If Physician Assistant, ability to establish and maintain a Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician through OMB.
  • Unrestricted Federal DEA number registered in Oregon.
  • Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or state governmental health care programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on privileges granted to provider by Medical Staff Services at SCHS Inpatient locations.

Experience

  • Experienced in hospital and outpatient practice environments providing care.
  • Experienced first assisting in the Operating Room.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St. Charles Health System.
  • Experienced working in a team environment and proven ability to collaborate, manage facilitation and consensus building among health care professionals and agencies to achieve expected results.

Personal Protective Equipment

  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Physical Requirements

  • Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
  • Frequently (50%): Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds, keyboard operation.
  • Occasionally (25%): Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.
  • Rarely (10%): Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 11-15 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Rarely (10%): Never (0%): Heat, cold, wet/slippery area, noise, dust, vibration, chemical solution, uneven surface. Blood-Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Category No Risk for Exposure to BBP
