The Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at The University of Chicago is consistently ranked among the best specialty nationally by U.S News and World Report. With nearly 40 specialists on staff, our program plays a leading role in the understanding of digestive diseases and in developing innovative and successful treatments for patients.
Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive care to both outpatients and inpatients within Gastroenterology practices, working within the Practice Guideline.
- Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients as an independent healthcare provider.
- Conducts assessment, diagnosis, initiation of delegated medical treatments, independent nursing interventions and evaluation of care, in addition to certain diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
- Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
- Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefits verses burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Education
- Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.
- Advanced degree preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
Certifications
- Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required.
- Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).

- Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments required.
