Essential Functions

  • Affords patient health assessments including wellness state, adherence to care plan, and determination of appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Administers acute and chronic patient care through taking histories, conducting physicals, monitoring therapies, administering injections and medications, and suturing wounds.
  • Triage patient calls and evaluates patient problems, responding to emergencies with CPR if necessary.
  • Documents patient information and care provided in patient records and maintains patient statistics.
  • Trains patients and families as needed and ensures continuity of care.
  • Assists physicians during surgeries in the operating room and participates in rounds at the hospital.
  • Responds to patient calls after hours and on weekends, consulting with other staff as necessary.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Requirements

    • Education: BSN, MSN preferred. Completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and Surgical 1st Assist Certification (if required).
    • Experience: Minimum of two years professional nursing experience in a clinic or hospital environment and two years of Nurse Practitioner experience. Orthopedic experience preferred.
    • Licensure: Current LA state RN license, DEA, and Board Certification.

    Knowledge

    • Understanding of acute and chronic protocols, medication administration, and delivery of physical care according to treatment plans.
    • Ability to assess patient health and evaluate patient problems in person or via phone, providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referrals.
    • Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques and patient learning measurements.

    Skills

    • Ability to gather and analyze physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data.
    • Proficiency in evaluating patient problems and developing appropriate interventions or referrals.
    • Capacity to revise care plans based on patient changes.

    Abilities

    • Capability to make responsible decisions within the scope of a dependent medical practitioner.
    • Expertise in creating health education programs and materials.
    • Collaborative working relationships with all members of the healthcare team.

    Environmental/Working Conditions

    • Normal office environment.
    • Some travel within the community.

    Physical/Mental Demands

    • Sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
    • Bending and stretching required.
    • Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
