About the role

GI Associates is seeking motivated individuals to join their growing independent gastroenterology practice. Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the physician and other healthcare professionals to provide medical services including direct patient care, medical record documentation, and follow-up care to inpatients and outpatients.
  • Performs comprehensive and interval history and physical exams of patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal problems.
  • Identifies differential diagnoses, assesses the severity of the patient's illness, and establishes priorities of care for the presenting problem.
  • Aids in the development of a treatment plan and appropriate follow-up care.
  • Communicates pertinent patient information to the covering physician.
  • Educates the patient about the diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests.
  • Exercises prescriptive authority as outlined in Wisconsin statutes.
  • Documents patient visit appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR) and/or according to the guidelines established by each individual location in which the care is provided.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA requirements.
  • Assists with percutaneous gastrostomy (PEG) tube placements.
  • Keeps current on new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or other training and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Nurse Practitioners: current license or eligible for licensure to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber in Wisconsin (as defined in Chapter N 6.03 a-d of the Wisconsin Administrative Code).
  • Physician Assistants: must be NCCPA (National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants) certified or eligible; and licensed or eligible for licensure by the Medical Examining Board(s) in Wisconsin.
  • DEA number.
  • CPR certification.
  • Maintains a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of MSDS and Bloodborne pathogens.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with emergency plans and OSHA.

Qualifications

  • Previous gastroenterology experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a cooperative member of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to change.
  • Working knowledge of gastrointestinal anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
  • Understanding of current recognized standards of care within the scope of licensure.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.
