About the role
The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU-SOM) has a full-time clinical faculty position available for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The APP will be a clinical faculty member of the CU-SOM, entering at either the level of Instructor of Clinical Practice or Senior Instructor of Clinical Practice.
Responsibilities
- Admitting patients to the hospital - either direct admit from an outside hospital or from the ED.
- Performing history and physical exam, patient assessment, ordering appropriate labs, diagnostic studies, radiology tests, and follow up and formulation of treatment plan.
- Performing necessary emergent and non-emergent procedures in the ICU with hospital privilege after demonstrated competency and according to standardized protocols where applicable.
- Procedures include placement of external ventricular drains, ICP monitors, subdural drains and evacuation port systems, lumbar drains, central lines, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
- Additional procedures include intubation, lumbar puncture, shunt tap and adjustment, bronchoscopy, paracentesis, and drain removal.
- Working closely with other members of the Neurosurgery service including attendings, APPs, and residents.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Advanced Practice Nursing (Acute Care NP) or a graduate of an accredited program in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Current active license to practice in the state of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant.
- Prescriptive authority is required. Currently credentialed as an APN or PA by the appropriate national certifying body.
- Four to seven years or more of post training inpatient/outpatient experience (a year-long hospitalist fellowship also counts toward this requirement).
- At least 2 years of experience in intensive care setting.
- Proficiency in ICU bedside procedures (arterial lines, central venous catheters, chest tube placement, intubation, etc.) and strong desire to master ICU and Neurosurgical bedside procedures.
- Experience in surgical subspecialty.
- Desire to learn and perform procedures appropriate in the Neuro-ICU setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
- Proven ability to care for high acuity, high complexity patients in fast-paced ICU setting.
Skills
- Ability to work individually and as a team to support team-based medical care in an APP/Physician/Resident Physician model.

Pay
- Hiring Range: Instructor of Clinical Practice: $112,400 - $130,800
- Hiring Range: Senior Instructor of Clinical Practice: $130,800 - $149,200
