Responsibilities
- Affords assistance to Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery surgeons in the diagnosis and treatment of primarily pediatric patients.
- Conducts new patient evaluations, return patient visits, post-operative visits, pre-operative history and physicals, and procedures such as Botox injections, orthopantograms, and cephalograms independently.
- Interviews patients to obtain a detailed history; performs physical examinations and presents pertinent data to the medical staff; collects and assists in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests; radiographic procedures and clinical studies.
- Executes various therapeutic and minor surgical procedures.
- Follows up with patients and assists in the referral and coordination with various internal and external facilities.
- Completes timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Potential opportunity for research involvement and publication.
- Aids with the development of patient care literature.
- Supports the development of educational curriculum for staff and/or patients.
- Aids as a consultant for inpatient and outpatient staff.
- Participates in student, physician, and staff education.
- Works with the staff in the coordination of the Oral & Maxillofacial clinic patient needs. Organizes patient programs.
Required Qualifications
- PA Required Qualifications: Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP. Certification by NCCPA. Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan. State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required. Current DEA registration required. AHA approved BLS. Previous clinical experience in an ambulatory pediatric surgical specialty for two years.
- NP Required Qualifications: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan. Current specialty certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, or Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by NCSBN. Current DEA registration required. AHA approved BLS. Previous clinical experience in an ambulatory pediatric surgical specialty for two years.
Desired Qualifications
- At least 1 year of clinical APP experience in pediatric ambulatory care.
- Previous clinical experience in Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Specialties, or cleft/craniofacial experience.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
- Demonstrates experience with coordinating and managing complex and multifaceted projects.
