About the Role

The APRN II is a nurse prepared with graduate-level nursing education and authorized to practice and prescribe as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Certified Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with one or more physicians or podiatrists. Advanced clinical practice includes assessment, diagnostic testing, diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation, follow-up, evaluation, accurate documentation, and patient advocacy. APRNs serve as clinical experts who design, implement, and evaluate patient-specific and population-based programs of care across the client, personnel, and organizational spheres of influence. The APRN II must spend 50% of hours worked utilizing prescriptive authority in the advanced clinical practice role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and consult with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, patients, and families to diagnose, prioritize problems, and implement interventions.
  • Provide consultation, initiate referrals, and promote collaboration among members of the healthcare team.
  • Support patients, families, and team members in selecting therapies that balance cost, quality, and benefit.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines in teaching, consultation, management, and research activities to improve nursing practice and healthcare outcomes.
  • Provide effective leadership; integrate cost and benefit analysis into care decisions.
  • Develop innovative solutions for patient care problems that improve resource efficiency while maintaining or improving quality.
  • Lead development and application of consensus-derived protocols or evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Participate in healthcare-related decision-making at the system, local, state, and national levels when opportunities arise.
  • Serve in key roles by participating in or leading committees, councils, and administrative teams.
  • Use, participate in, and disseminate research, evidence-based practice, or quality improvement projects to enhance clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Critically evaluate existing practice using current research findings and integrate changes through evidence-based practice projects.
  • Evaluate care processes as a leader or team member in quality improvement projects.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and healthcare providers to promote best practice.
  • Serve as teacher, mentor, role model, and preceptor for nurses, colleagues, and students.
  • Ensure nursing practice is conducted in an ethical and legal manner, including compliance with the Ohio APRN scope of practice.
  • Provide safe, compassionate, competent, and ethical care while demonstrating accountability for professional practice.
  • Preserve patient dignity and serve as a patient advocate, including support for advance directives and patient wishes.
  • Perform and document complete history and physical examinations, including psychosocial assessment.
  • Prescribe drugs and therapeutic devices consistent with the formulary under section 4723.50 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Order laboratory and radiologic tests and interpret results.
  • Collaborate with physicians to plan and implement comprehensive care, discuss care with family members, and perform duties per the Standard Care Arrangement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Graduate from NP, CNS, or midwife program
  • Specialty certification in area of expertise; APN must be acute care certified
  • Registered Nurse with APRN licensure
  • Demonstrated expertise in area of clinical specialization
  • Professional membership in specialty nursing organization required within one year of start date
  • 3-4 years of clinical nursing experience in geriatric, occupational health, or other applicable setting

Pay

Competitive pay based on education level and experience.
