About the role

Nurse Practitioners play a vital role in delivering compassionate care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They analyze patient histories, develop treatment plans, diagnose and treat acute health issues, and prescribe medications. Their expertise brings healing and hope to these communities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, and injuries.
  • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, dosage, and frequencies.
  • Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients' individual circumstances.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selectees may be subject to a probationary period.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Position subject to rotating shifts; days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully complete a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

  • A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
  • Pass the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • For APN positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
  • Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
  • At least one full year of professional advanced practice nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level).
  • One or more full years of professional advanced practice nursing experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
