Advanced Practice Nurse (Certified Nurse Anesthetist)

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide anesthetic care to patients under the scope of practice, including pre-anesthesia evaluation, peri-operative anesthetic administration, and post-operative management.
• Perform duties in Acute Medical & Surgical inpatient and outpatient settings at the Salem VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
• Directly responsible and accountable to the supervising anesthesiologist or surgeon.
• Provision of direct care, including assessing monitors, providing IV sedation, and conducting anesthesia or general anesthesia for patients.
• Perform pre-operative evaluation for surgical patients.
• Participate in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate patient care needs, prevent avoidable complications, and achieve optimal patient conditions and outcomes.
• Act in adherence to nursing care in accordance with ethical principles and within the scope of practice.
• Maintain BLS and ACLS training and perform activities reflecting educational, experiential, and competency requirements in areas such as Nursing Practice, Quality of Care, Performance, Educational/Career Development, Collegiality, Ethics, Collaboration, Research, and Resource Utilization.
• Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information.
• Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to infection control standards, safe use and operation of equipment, and safety practices.
• Conform with all medical center and service/service line safety policies, procedures, and protocols to avoid injury and/or illnesses to self or others.
• Prepare all reports and documentation pertaining to injuries within established time frames utilizing the ASISTS Program.

Physical Requirements
