Advanced Practice Nurse

Status: Per Diem, Hourly – Day shift

About the Role

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a licensed independent practitioner responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for children in accordance with professional standards and hospital guidelines. The APN works collaboratively with other members of the medical staff to provide care to patients in inpatient acute rehabilitation or long-term care settings. The role involves bedside clinical coverage, on-call responsibilities, and leadership within the multidisciplinary team to help children reach their full potential.

Responsibilities

• Provides thorough medical care to patients admitted to Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH) inpatient facilities, leading the multidisciplinary team.
• Provides on-call coverage as needed on a rotating basis.
• Demonstrates understanding of diagnosis, pertinent medical findings, rationale for and goals of treatment, and medical interventions through practice and written documentation.
• Initiates, directs, and leads the team to meet comprehensive medical patient care needs using quality and cost-effective methods.
• Utilizes High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and techniques to elevate patient safety and effective communication.
• Serves as care coordinator for pediatric acute rehabilitation or long-term care settings.
• Ensures continuity and completeness of care beyond basic needs.
• Communicates and incorporates relevant research findings into practice, education, and consultation.
• Motivates staff to improve performance, leading to enhanced department outcomes.
• Supports professional growth by attending and conducting training and orientation sessions.
• Maintains credentials and continuing education according to professional practice standards and regulations.
• Coordinates the development and implementation of policies and procedures to meet customer expectations.
• Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with colleagues and external contacts.
• Develops and implements a Joint Protocol specific to their clinical practice area, consulting with collaborating physicians as established.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families to ensure Patient and Family-Centered Care practices.
• Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery.
• Educates students by serving as a lecturer and precepting in the clinical area.
• Maintains accurate billing and provides outpatient services to pediatric patients as needed.
• Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment and annual performance evaluation.

Requirements

• Master’s or doctoral degree in advanced practice nursing in a field related to the area of hire.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of nursing experience.
• Prior experience working with infants, children, and young adults with medical complexity desired.

Qualifications

• RN license from the State of New Jersey.
• APN license from the State of New Jersey.
• Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification.
• American Heart Association BLS and PALS certifications.
• Current CDS and DEA certifications.

Pay

$57.69 - $91.34 per hour. The compensation offered will depend on the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
