About the Role
The APP Educator is a licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with System-wide Professional Development responsibilities. They demonstrate an understanding of the APP role at the "top-of-license" and serve as a clinical resource and role model within their area of expertise. The APP Educator fulfills organizational functions according to the Professional Development (PD) roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for PD specialty, and partner for practice transitions. They align their responsibilities with the current Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice and utilize the nursing process as applied to their specialty.
Responsibilities
- Caring Science: Promotes a culture of caring and compassion, implements Caritas Processes®, fosters teamwork, and supports staff spiritually and physically.
- Learning Facilitator: Uses the educational design process to address knowledge and skill gaps, teaches self-care and illness prevention, and adjusts information based on staff responses and cultural variations.
- Change Agent: Transforms processes through inspiration and initiative, initiates system-wide education projects, and adapts to changing work demands.
- Mentor: Advances the profession by contributing to the professional development of others, provides in-services and continuing education, and serves as a role model and preceptor.
- Leader: Influences interprofessional practice and learning environments, designs education programs aligned with strategic goals, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
- Champion for Scientific Inquiry: Promotes research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives, and facilitates collaborative partnerships.
- Advocate for PD Specialty: Supports professional development as a practice specialty, demonstrates lifelong learning, and maintains competence in the area of practice.
- Partner for Practice Transitions: Supports transitions of advanced practice team members across learning and practice environments, roles, and professional stages.
- Professional Role Development: Assesses and develops clinical skills activities, identifies strategies for lifelong learning, and coordinates programming for professional role development.
- Communication: Complies with regulatory training guidelines, teaches best practices for patient care transition, and educates staff on meeting diverse communication needs.
- Professional Practice Evaluation: Evaluates professional development, provides constructive feedback, and participates in shared governance.
- Critical Thinking: Encourages staff to examine treatment practices, applies evidence-based practices, and solves problems creatively.
Department Specific Functions
- Onboarding and Orientation: Assesses and oversees hiring, orientation, and integration processes, designs and evaluates orientation programs, and facilitates onboarding for licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel.
- Education/Competency Management: Assesses, designs, coordinates, and evaluates educational programs, develops activities to address knowledge and skill deficits, and supports competency assessment and evaluation.
- Collaborative Partnerships: Initiates partnerships, promotes research and evidence-based practice, and collaborates with educators to develop education plans for patient care staff.
