ADVANCED PRACTICE CLINICIAN II (PRIMARY CARE)

Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health services to patients and family members as an independent practitioner or with physician supervision.
  • Secure health and developmental history, perform detailed physical exams, record findings, and make critical evaluations.
  • Perform or request special screening, developmental tests, diagnostic tests, and procedures; interpret results.
  • Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
  • Make decisions concerning medical care needs, including treatment modalities, prescribed medications, consultation, and referral.
  • Provide direct and independent medical care to maintain life, provide comfort, reduce distress, and enhance coping ability.
  • Provide surveillance or medical practices to stabilize chronically ill persons; adjust treatments within established standing orders and recognize when to refer.
  • Collaborate with physicians in managing selected complex medical problems.
  • Participate with other professionals and agencies in providing health care, including immunization, disease control, environmental health, and health education.
  • Evaluate medical aspects of treatment plans periodically and reassess when appropriate.
  • Evaluate total health care needs of patients and develop or initiate plans to meet those needs.
  • Provide medical care and preventive services to healthy individuals, including guidance on nutrition, common illnesses, accidents, and immunizations.
  • Maintain knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and home study.
  • Teach patients and family members ways to maintain or improve their health status.
  • Maintain records and reports on patients, personal activities, and other required information.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Performance Improvement (PI) review processes.
  • Provide emergency services or crisis intervention, including lifesaving procedures to stabilize patients.
  • Serve as a mentor to Advanced Practice Clinician I and assume responsibility for medical, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, interns, or residents assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of direct work experience in a hospital/clinic setting as a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

  • Completion of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner School in one of the following areas:
    • Accredited Family Nurse Practitioner
    • Accredited Adult Nurse Practitioner
    • Accredited Adult-Gerontology
  • Active unrestricted Advanced Nurse Practitioner license in any U.S. State or Territory in one of the following areas:
    • Family Nurse Practitioner
    • Adult Nurse Practitioner
    • Adult-Gerontology
  • National Certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Active unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license from any U.S. State or Territory.

Physician Assistant

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
  • Board Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Active, unrestricted Physician Assistant License from any U.S. State or Territory.

Navajo/Indian preference: FDIHB, Inc. is located within the Navajo Nation and gives primary preference to enrolled members of the Navajo Nation and secondary preference to members of other federally-recognized Indian tribes.
