Advanced Locate Technician

About the role

RECONN is seeking a Utility Locator to perform safe and efficient locating of underground utilities in Albuquerque, NM. The role involves researching, marking, documenting locations using electronic field sketching, GPS, and data collection, and requires a minimum of one year of locate experience, preferably with gas and communication utilities. The position is full‑time with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform correct, safe, and efficient locating of underground utilities.
• Thoroughly research and investigate all underground utilities in an area.
• Properly mark the location of utilities.
• Complete necessary paperwork and document each location (electronic field sketching, GPS, data collection).
• Work full‑time with overtime required.
• Demonstrate advanced locating experience with all utilities, commitment to quality, and attention to detail (preferred).
• Experience reading CAD, GIS, and MicroStation files is a plus.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year locate experience (preferably with gas and communication).
• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Previous outdoor experience is a plus.
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on‑call shifts as needed.
• Able to stand and walk for long periods on varying terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs.
• Proficiency with technology.
• Must be able to travel.
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners (customer service experience a plus).
• Able to pass a drug screen (safety‑sensitive position).
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required.

Pay

The starting pay for this position ranges from $28.00/hr to $35.00/hr, depending on experience.

Schedule

This is a full‑time position; overtime will be required.
