About the role

The Advanced Industrial Engineer - Material Flow Automation provides technical expertise in standard labor analysis and lean manufacturing. This role serves as the key link to providing technical support to plant Industrial Engineers on standards related to material flow, evaluating and implementing strike zone workstation layouts, and maintaining key performance measurements to monitor and exceed department goals.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor plant and Center of Excellence (COE) Industrial Engineers.
  • Provide technical support in development, evaluation, implementation, and improvement of best business practices and automation related to material flow.
  • Develop and analyze future program material flow from dock to point of use.
  • Provide technical support for the evaluation and implementation of best business practices related to material flow.
  • Provide technical support, assistance, training, and leadership to plant teams in implementing material flow standards.
  • Support evaluation and updates to current materials standards.
  • Provide training and technical assistance in rolling out changes to material flow best business practices.
  • Provide technical support and leadership with indirect labor motion-based time standards.
  • Maintain a central database for plant layouts, kitting process books, material handling labor tools, and other lean manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide technical support and assist with labor roadmaps to decrease the gap to labor goals.
  • Provide technical support and leadership in establishing future manufacturing footprints and core assembly processes.
  • Provide technical support and data to the automation team regarding material handling operations.
  • Support key initiatives and core projects as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Mechanical or Manufacturing preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience – high volume order fulfillment or distribution center experience desired.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in designing material replenishment routes for automated and human-powered technology – both full pallet and specialty packaging (e.g., totes, soft product, carts).
  • Strong computer skills required (MS Office, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Interest and ability to learn AMR/AGC programming.
  • Experience in simulation software is desired (e.g., FlexSim).
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills – ability to work in a matrix organization and effectively lead without direct positional authority.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and teamwork skills (verbal and documentation) – ability to write clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Flexible work schedule and extensive travel/plant visits required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Industrial preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience.

Primary location: Central Tech Unit, Plymouth, MI.
