About the role
The Advanced Fire Systems Technician Trainee will assist experienced technicians in inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire alarm and sprinkler systems. This hands-on role provides training and development to prepare for certification as a Fire Protection Technician.
Responsibilities
- Assist in inspecting and testing fire alarm systems (control panels, detectors, notification devices) and sprinkler systems (valves, pumps, sprinkler heads) to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and local regulations.
- Use specialized tools to conduct performance tests, troubleshoot issues, and document findings.
- Support maintenance and repairs, including replacing components and adjusting systems for optimal performance.
- Diagnose and repair system malfunctions under senior technician guidance.
- Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting system status, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, maintenance, and repairs.
- Participate in ongoing training, including manufacturer-specific courses and certification programs.
- Shadow senior technicians during complex inspections and repairs to gain practical experience.
- Adhere to company safety policies and ensure compliance with fire safety codes and industry standards.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical knowledge or low voltage.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Experience with basic hand and power tools.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
