Advanced Fire Systems Technician - Trainee

About the role

The Advanced Fire Systems Technician Trainee will assist experienced technicians in inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire alarm and sprinkler systems. This hands-on role provides training and development to prepare for certification as a Fire Protection Technician.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspecting and testing fire alarm systems (control panels, detectors, notification devices) and sprinkler systems (valves, pumps, sprinkler heads) to ensure compliance with NFPA codes and local regulations.
• Use specialized tools to conduct performance tests, troubleshoot issues, and document findings.
• Support maintenance and repairs, including replacing components and adjusting systems for optimal performance.
• Diagnose and repair system malfunctions under senior technician guidance.
• Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting system status, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, maintenance, and repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training, including manufacturer-specific courses and certification programs.
• Shadow senior technicians during complex inspections and repairs to gain practical experience.
• Adhere to company safety policies and ensure compliance with fire safety codes and industry standards.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical knowledge or low voltage.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Experience with basic hand and power tools.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
