ADVANCED EMT
Covenant Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ensures rapid response with specially trained personnel and a fleet of vehicles equipped with cutting-edge technology. The team improves patient care and outcomes, supports post-discharge planning, and enhances community engagement. Working closely with all Covenant medical centers and several non-Covenant facilities, our EMS team provides advanced-level transport options when needed.
About the Role
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is a public safety professional who responds to medical emergencies and transport needs in pre-hospital and interfacility settings. The AEMT performs triage, initial patient assessment, and emergency care while recognizing injuries, illnesses, and pre-existing conditions.
Responsibilities
- Administer epinephrine for anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest (after proper training).
- Perform airway management and oxygen administration using a Blind-Insertion Airway Device (BIAD).
- Provide emergency care for acute illness, injury, behavioral health emergencies, and chronic comorbid conditions.
- Report patient information, medical condition, and treatment to receiving medical personnel.
- Utilize EMS telecommunications for coordination with dispatchers, medical facilities, and online medical control.
- Conduct routine vehicle maintenance checks, clean and restock assigned vehicles after each call, and refuel as needed.
- Adhere to the Covenant Health EMS dress code while on duty.
- Complete mandatory training, in-service education, and continuing education to meet state requirements.
- Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Sufficient to meet licensing/certification standards (no specific degree required).
- Two (2) years of EMS or healthcare experience preferred.
- Must hold and maintain a TN AEMT license or a valid, unrestricted license in any Compact Member State.
- Valid driver’s license with state-mandated minimum insurance coverage; driving record must meet Covenant Health standards.
