About the role

Morgan Lens Irrigation, Bladder irrigation, Yank Auer suctioning, Colostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal, IV site care, Transport on monitor, Foley catheter placement are some of the additional patient care and tasks included in the ED Tech Advanced role.

Responsibilities

  • Care and comfort of patients
  • Vital sign measurement
  • Personal care and hygiene
  • Aids with mobility
  • Performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care
  • Identifies need and initiates CPR
  • Foley catheter placement
  • Identifies patients in crises or decline and alerts RN for further assessments
  • Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns
  • Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees
  • Completes patient rounding as assigned
  • Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving
  • Completes patient screenings as applicable
  • Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress
  • Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) through an approved educational program (preferred)
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • Current certification for Advanced EMT (AEMT) (preferred) (required if employed in the state of South Carolina)
  • 1 year of experience as an LPN, ED Tech, or Advanced EMT
