THE POSITION The State of Connecticut , Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is currently recruiting for as Advanced Clinical Social Worker within the Mobile Crisis Team at the Western Connecticut Mental Health Network (WCMHN) in Torrington, CT. In this critical role, you will provide crisis evaluations, rapid clinical interventions, intake assessments, and care coordination for individuals across 19 towns in the CAC 22 service area. You will also collaborate closely with contract agencies, community partners, hospitals, and law enforcement to support effective crisis resolution and promote recovery-oriented outcomes. WCMHN was established in 1996 by the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). It oversees clinical, fiscal, and administrative aspects of mental health services in Region 5. The network operates in Waterbury, Danbury, and Torrington, with over 200 dedicated staff offering comprehensive services for individuals with long-term mental illnesses. The Access Center provides Mobile Crisis Services to the 19 towns in the CAC 22 service area, to numerous contract agencies that serve that area, and coordinates care with the local hospital. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In a state agency behavioral health program as part of a multi-disciplinary team at one or more locations this class is accountable for skilled clinical social work treatment and leadership services involving complex case assignments. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary Mobile Crisis Team that provides crisis evaluations and interventions in the community Demonstrates the ability to clinically assess risk in the community, to formulate immediate interventions, and administration of Emergency Certificates, as clinically indicated Provides services via the Regional Hotline with the skills to access/triage/activate resources for people who request information, support or crisis intervention. Provides Intake services to the 19 towns in the CAC 22 area by completing a psychosocial assessment, risk assessment and other admission paperwork for the purpose of admitting clients to the agency. Communicates and works collaboratively with contract agencies, community providers, State of CT DMHAS and community hospitals as well as local and State police. Links community members to appropriate care, provides community resource information and manages risk for negative outcomes in the community. Provides coverage for the Jail Diversion program as assigned by the program supervisor. Completes assessments and makes clinical recommendations for treatment as requested by the court. Coordinates care and monitors participation with psychiatric and substance abuse treatment services. Provides individual and group psychotherapy to a small caseload. Develops and implements person-centered recovery plans to guide treatment. Participates in case conferences and critical incident reviews. Documents treatment interventions in the electronic health record and completes reports and screenings in accordance with agency policies and procedures. Participates in organizational committees and trainings as assigned. Provides shift oversight for the Access Center staff as assigned by the program supervisor. Provides clinical supervision to assigned Access Center staff and to students and/or interns as assigned by the program supervisor. Performs related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY Considerable knowledge ofand ability to instruct others about theories of human behavior, current diagnostic categories of mental illness, family dynamics, substance abuse and human sexuality; of social, cultural, economic, political, religious, medical, psychological and legal issues which influence behavior of clients, families, service programs and society at large; Knowledge ofstatutes, regulations and standards relating to mental health services; state law governing licensed clinical social worker practice standards; Considerableoral and written communication skills; administrative skills; Considerable ability to independently apply in practice current psychiatric treatment modalities including but not limited to behavioral, cognitive, object-relations, crisis intervention and psychosocial rehabilitation approaches; Ability tointegrate theory and case material in assessing and devising comprehensive treatment and/or service plans for difficult and/or complex case assignments; lead task groups including but not limited to treatment teams and agency committees. Minimum Qualifications - General Experience One (1) year of experience as a licensed clinical social worker. Preferred Qualifications Experience performing intake (psychosocial) assessments and initial care planning. Experience completing community-based crisis assessments. Experience completing risk assessments and developing risk mitigation plans Experience providing trauma-informed services to individuals with severe and prolonged mental illness, addiction and co-morbid medial conditions Special Requirements Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice clinical social work pursuant to Sec. 20-195 (m-z) of the Connecticut General Statutes.Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S.1320a-7b(f). Incumbents in this class may be required to have knowledge of sign language and communication ability with the deaf and hearing impaired in designated positions.Incumbents in this class may be required to have ability in Spanish oral and written communication in designated positions.
