About the role

The Advanced Analytics Modeler role is within the Advanced Analytics Department at Sentry Insurance. The position involves translating raw data into actionable business information, focusing on developing pricing, underwriting, sales, and claims models to drive profitable growth and informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Build comprehensive analytics solutions to enhance business outcomes such as pricing accuracy, resource efficiency, workflow optimization, and trend identification.
  • Identify and build raw data queries in Snowflake, SQL, or Python to extract and transform data.
  • Construct processes in Python to run raw data queries, perform data transformations, calculate predictor and target variables, and assemble predictive modeling datasets.
  • Apply data science tools and statistical techniques like regression, generalized linear models, gradient boosting, and neural networks to develop, validate, and implement models for solving business problems.
  • Communicate with business stakeholders throughout the modeling process to align solutions with business objectives and incorporate relevant business considerations.
  • Create data visualizations in Tableau to communicate model performance, variable importance, impacts, and other insights to facilitate effective user understanding and utilization of analytics solutions.
  • Collaborate with modelers, actuaries, and data analysts to share and refine ideas for improving analytics solutions.
  • Maintain and monitor existing models and processes to ensure optimal performance and data quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience preferred.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Degree in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Master’s degree, a relevant postgraduate certificate, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including collaboration with multi-disciplinary groups and all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software tools, Python is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of data extraction, validation, and practical application of statistical modeling techniques.
