Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) – PRN “As Needed” Clinical Hospital Based Role - General Surgery
About the role
The Advanced Practice Provider serves as a trusted clinician and clinical resource, delivering high-quality care through comprehensive patient evaluation, treatment, education, and follow-up. Working closely with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams, the APP ensures continuity of care from hospital encounters through outpatient communication and coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care including histories, physical exams, diagnoses, and evidence-based treatment plans
- Counsel and educate patients and families using clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication
- Carefully coordinate care across inpatient and outpatient settings to support continuity and optimal outcomes
- Order and interpret appropriate labs, imaging, and consults with attention to quality, safety, and cost
- Collaborate within a Care Team model to support high-risk patients, care planning, and self-management
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and workflow enhancements
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Required Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree from an accredited nursing program
- Physician Assistant: Graduation from an accredited PA program
- Active Maryland license (or ability to obtain)
- Current DEA license and Maryland Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) license
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association or approved provider)
- Unrestricted license with no history of suspension or revocation
- Eligible for participation with all payers
Skills & Experience
- Prior experience in Surgical sub-specialty or acute care preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and commitment to evidence-based practice
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR experience preferred)
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while thriving in a team-based environment

Pay
Pay is based on experience, skills and education. The pay range may also vary based on specialty if applicable. Salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
