Department: Florida Medical Clinic - Cardiology | Setting: Inpatient and Outpatient | Locations: Hospital-based, primarily working with physicians at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel, BayCare Wesley Chapel, and Orlando Health Wiregrass Ranch Hospital
Responsibilities
- Perform initial and follow-up evaluations of hospitalized cardiology patients.
- Obtain comprehensive histories and perform focused or complete physical examinations.
- Develop and update assessment and treatment plans in collaboration with the cardiologist.
- Manage patients with common cardiovascular conditions.
- Monitor changes in patient condition and escalate concerns to the attending cardiologist when appropriate.
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies.
- Recognize deviations from normal in the physical assessment; work collaboratively to formulate treatment plans.
- Implement appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission, and discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
- Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve patient care issues to foster significant improvement in patient care.
- Dictate and document in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain provision of preventive health services.
- Conduct or participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds.
- Perform detailed history and physical examinations and document inpatient H & P and discharge summaries (must be reviewed and countersigned by supervising medical staff member within 24 hours).
- Write or dictate reports and progress notes appropriately in the medical record.
- Triage patients.
- Share clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel and collaborate with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Act as a role model and resource person for staff.
- Participate in review and revision of policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Establish relationships with professionals of other health-related groups within the community.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
Requirements
- Nurse Practitioner:
- MN, MSN, DNP, PhD, or DNS degree in nursing.
- APRN license in the state of Florida.
- After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants must have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Physician Assistant:
- Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program.
- Current physician assistant licensure in the State of Florida.
- Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
- Specialty experience preferred.

Schedule
- Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- One weekend a month.
