Position Summary
Situated in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is a 480-bed, comprehensive emergency, medical and surgical acute-care facility with a rich history dating back over 110 years. The hospital excels in various specialties including heart and vascular, surgical services, rehabilitation, neurosciences, maternity care, and emergency services, including a Level II Adult Trauma Center. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is part of the Orlando Health system, which offers a wide range of services across Florida.
Responsibilities
- Manages patients using the highest degree of independence with minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area across the continuum.
- Affirms the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies, and recognizes deviations from the normal.
- Develops a diagnosis, and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan.
- Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
- Aids in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures.
- Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence-based medicine.
- Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
- Writes or dictates patient progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical resumes that are concise throughout.
- Prescribes medication.
- Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services.
- Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
- Works with supervising physician to determine and place appropriate specialty consultations.
- Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators.
- Performs advanced cardiac life support.
- In medical emergencies, acts on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient.
- Trairs patients.
- Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel, and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Acts as a role model and resource person for staff.
- Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
- Establishes relationships with professionals of other health-related groups within the community.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.
- Participates in basic science and clinical research projects.
Qualifications
- Nurse Practitioner: MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing. APRN license in the state of Florida. National advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board. Current BLS certification.
- Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited physician assistant program. Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida. Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
