About the role

Provides mental health services to individuals, including medication management, prescribing pharmacological agents, treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies for clients of Brown County Human Services through the development and implementation of service plans.

Offers consultation to nursing and non-medical staff of the Community Treatment Program, community education on mental health issues, and psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and treatment as required. Orders and interprets laboratory tests and provides diagnosis of clinical conditions.

Responsibilities

• Directs, supervises, and consults with professional staff in implementing treatment plans and client care.
• Assists in developing and implementing follow-up treatment plans for clients.
• Discharges clients and/or closes cases in a timely manner.
• Provides expert testimony in court cases, if required.
• Assists the Clinical Director in developing, evaluating, and implementing clinical programs.
• Participates in organizational meetings and duties as required.
• Oversees the care rendered to clients, ensuring safe client care through appropriate planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Maintains documentation as required by policy and regulatory standards.
• Provides psychiatric care and treatment in the Outpatient Clinic setting.
• Ensures quality and continuity of health care services through collaborative relationships with facility physicians.
• Serves as a role model, resource person, and educator for facility staff.
• Assists in establishing standards of care to promote excellence in client services.
• Consults with or refers clients to physicians for psychiatric health problems requiring additional medical expertise.
• Collaborates with the Medical Director and facility physicians in developing objectives, policies, procedures, and evaluation data for medical services.
• Maintains confidentiality of client and business information.

Requirements

• Knowledge of multi-disciplinary mental health treatment methods.
• Knowledge of advanced nursing practice for assessments, deriving scientifically grounded conclusions, and prescribing therapeutic approaches.
• Knowledge of psychiatric treatment in assigned areas.
• Knowledge of electronic medical records or ability to learn those skills.
• Knowledge of principles of documentation.
• Ability to evaluate, develop, and implement care plans.
• Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team, courts, and referral sources.
• Ability to supervise and direct multi-disciplinary professional staff in client care and treatment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and the public.
• Knowledge of the needs of developmentally disabled, mentally ill, and AODA clients.
• Skill in performing client evaluations related to acute and chronic mental health problems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Medical Director, facility physicians, and staff to ensure quality and continuity of care.
• Ability to manage stress associated with threatening or unpredictable client behavior.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work the required hours of the position.

Physical Demands

• Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
• Intermittent standing, walking, and sitting; occasional driving.
• Repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, pulling, and operating controls using hands and/or feet.
• Occasional bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, and reaching.
• Clear oral communication.
• Ability to distinguish sounds at various frequencies and volumes.
• Ability to distinguish people or objects at varied distances under different light conditions.
• Must be free from communicable disease.
