Adults Team Peer Support Specialist

This position supports adult clients (26+) residing in St. Louis and St. Louis County, interacting with community-based adults working to recover from serious and persistent mental illness. Work is community-based in St. Louis City and St. Louis County.

Shift Information

Day Shift: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (day shift only) — no nights, weekends, on-call, or overtime required.

Requirements

  • A completed MO-issued Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) Certification
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance
  • Personal life experience with a substance use disorder and/or mental illness and receipt of appropriate services
  • Strong computer skills, including use of EMR systems and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Share lived experience of resilience and recovery, modeling successful recovery behaviors for individuals with a mental health diagnosis
  • Link clients with support groups and other community resources, including health & wellness activities, employment, and activities supporting recovery goals
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to develop and modify individual client treatment plans
  • Teach and model symptom management and problem-solving skills
  • Start and sustain mutual support groups
  • Promote dialogues on recovery and resilience

Focus Areas

  • Rehab (CTT) Teams: Help individuals identify goals and barriers to improving quality of life; contribute interventions to treatment plans as a team member
  • Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT): Focus on recovery from both mental illness and substance use; experience with addictions (personal or family) and familiarity with maintaining sobriety required
  • Transitional Age Youth: Support young adults (16 to 25) in developing independence skills; must have had similar experiences and be close in age to engage effectively
  • Homeless: Focus on acquiring and maintaining safe, affordable housing; must have experienced homelessness and been successfully housed for the last two years

Qualifications

  • Minimum:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Certified Missouri Peer Specialist (CPS) certification
    • Valid Driver’s License
  • Preferred:
    • Associate’s Degree
    • Supervisor experience
