The College is seeking a passionate individual to serve as an adult school transition liaison supporting enrollment from adult schools in the Fremont, Newark, and Union City region. The College would like to strengthen the pathway and services offered to these students by having a consistent and coordinated presence on the adult school campuses. This position provides the employee(s) with the skills, expertise, and experience necessary to enter professional roles in high school, adult school, and higher education environments. This opportunity will equip the employee with general and in-depth knowledge of a vast range of student support services and programs.
Responsibilities
- Work with consortium members and partners to guide prospective learners from the Tri-City adult schools along their pathway to Ohlone College.
- Cultivate meaningful relationships with prospective students, school personnel, and community members while promoting awareness of Ohlone College's opportunities and educational pathways.
- Provide personalized guidance throughout the matriculation journey by sharing information and resources, answering questions, conducting outreach and recruitment activities, and assisting students with enrollment and onboarding processes.
- Assist students with the Ohlone college application, Adult School Partnership Program applications, dual enrollment application, financial aid, and scholarship applications.
- Support students and adult school staff in the enrollment process, including admissions, basic residency questions, Adult School Partnership Program processes, and other paperwork related to enrollment.
- Help students navigate student account set-up (MyOhlone, Canvas, Outlook), College aid Award Letters, and Dreamer/undocumented access.
- Complete a transition plan with students and follow up on student progress toward their goals.
- Collaborate with site administrators and staff to determine the needs of the school and students.
- Facilitate collaboration between the Tri-City adult schools, Ohlone College, and community members.
- Develop skills, abilities, and sensitivities for assisting a diverse student population in an educational setting.
- Employ technology and communication systems to monitor, prepare, and generate reports, track student progress, and inform students of critical information essential to their success at Ohlone.
- Utilize excellent oral and written communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support student success.
Qualifications
- Any combination equivalent to a bachelor's degree and two years of related work experience.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Good record-keeping skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to provide an equitable and inclusive working and educational environment.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
Desirable Qualifications
- Bilingual competency in Spanish and/or American Sign Language preferred.
Schedule
This is a temporary short-term position, limited to a maximum of 165 working days within a fiscal year. The assignment will span over 45 weeks per year including regular and summer terms, with a maximum of 30 hours per week. Around sixteen (16) hours will be served at the school site over a minimum of two days per week, and four (4) hours will be assigned at the Ohlone College campus for meetings and training activities. Reliable transportation to and from assigned locations is required.
