Adult League Official – Softball Umpire (Part-Time)

Part-time, non-exempt seasonal position located at Round Lake Park and Lake Riley Park in Eden Prairie.

Pay

Starts at $26.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

  • 3–12 hours per week, evenings from 5:45 pm to 10:30 pm.
  • League play occurs Monday–Thursday, late April through early October.

Responsibilities

  • Officiates adult recreation softball league games.
  • Provides quality, safe, and enjoyable leisure opportunities for all participants.
  • Demonstrates, facilitates, and enforces local league rules and regulations.
  • Promotes fair play, good sportsmanship, and a fun and safe environment for all league participants, players, and the general public.
  • Performs a variety of additional duties as part of the City team.

Requirements

  • Prior experience playing softball and/or baseball and basic knowledge of slow-pitch softball rules.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, or carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, run, walk intermittently, kneel, crouch, and avoid obstacles such as hit or thrown balls and players.
  • Close and distant vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to work at least 4 hours in succession outdoors in adverse weather conditions at various playing sites.
  • Prior umpiring experience preferred; knowledge of USSSA and local league rules preferred.
  • Ability to umpire a wide range of skill levels preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications approved.
  • Must successfully complete the City’s pre-employment process, including professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check, work verification, and education verification if applicable.
