Adult Health Clinical Nursing Instructor

About the role

Chamberlain College of Nursing seeks Part-Time Clinical Instructors to teach students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in the Arlington, VA area. You will mentor students in person at an inpatient clinical setting, bridging classroom and simulation learning with real-world patient care applications. Teaching experience is not required, and candidates with a completed MSN are encouraged to apply.

Clinicals are scheduled at healthcare facilities in the Arlington, VA area. We are accepting applications for potential future needs in the following specializations:

• Mental Health Psych Nursing: Focus on nursing skills and procedures in an inpatient setting, emphasizing anxiety, self-concept, thought disorders, mood alterations, addictive behaviors, organic brain dysfunction, abuse, and violence issues.
• Pediatric Nursing: Family-centered care of children, covering normal childcare and health alterations from infancy through adolescence in an inpatient setting.
• Maternal OB Nursing: Family-centered approaches to maternal/newborn care on a Labor & Delivery unit, including the childbearing cycle, high-risk factors, complications, and alterations.
• Complex Adult Health Critical Care: Care for adult patients with unstable emergent critical illnesses, integrating nursing, technological, and scientific knowledge with clinical judgment.
• Community Public Health Nursing: Role of the public/community health nurse in shaping conditions supportive of health, emphasizing community assessment and wellness in an outpatient setting.
• Capstone Final Clinical: Facilitates the student’s transition into professional nursing, refining skills in delivery and management of care within legal, ethical, and evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and Curriculum Implementation:
  • Implement the College’s philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through clinical teaching.
  • Plan clinical experiences and provide direct supervision and evaluation of nursing students.
  • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
• Student Evaluation and Support:
  • Develop and post written clinical assignments tailored to students’ knowledge base, skill competency, and learning needs.
  • Evaluate and provide documented feedback on student performance based on course objectives.
  • Be available for student remediation as needed.
  • Correct and return homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork, and other written work in a timely manner.
• Clinical Coordination:
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical site policies, procedures, and expectations with assistance from clinical site personnel.
  • Develop and post written clinical assignments consistent with students’ knowledge and skill levels.
  • Maintain visibility and availability to staff and students at the clinical site.
• Program and College Development:
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and the College.
  • Participate in the College Assessment Program, campus retention efforts, and policy implementation.
  • May teach simulation/skills lab and/or didactic course content under supervision of a course coordinator.
• Professionalism and Collaboration:
  • Serve as a professional role model for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Utilize relationship skills in group problem-solving, consensus-building, and negotiation.
  • Collaborate with administration, staff, and faculty to improve college operations and student satisfaction.
• Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory rules and standards.
  • Keep the course coordinator informed of student and agency issues.
  • Report to the dean or assistant dean with direct oversight from a course coordinator.

Requirements

• A master’s or doctoral degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
• An unencumbered professional nursing license in Virginia.
• At least two years of professional experience within the last five years in the area of instruction as a registered nurse.
• Live within a reasonable proximity of Arlington, VA (teaching at assigned clinical locations).
• Teaching or precepting experience is preferred but not required.
• Exceptional subject matter expertise with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Pay

In support of pay transparency laws, the expected compensation rate for this position is:

• Online (Visiting Professor): Between $715 and $1,950 per earned credit hour, depending on education and experience. Actual pay may vary based on course type, experience, geographic location, licensure, market factors, and departmental budgets.
• Campus (Part-Time Clinical Instructor): Between $1,120 and $7,245 per assignment, depending on education and experience. Actual pay may vary based on course type, experience, geographic location, licensure, market factors, and departmental budgets.
