Adult Education-Spanish GED Certified Instructor (Evenings)
Summary Of Classification
This non-bargaining position is accountable for implementing the policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment within the Waterbury Adult Education evening program. The Spanish GED Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to adult learners preparing for the GED examination in Spanish. The instructor will teach and support students in all four GED subject areas: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The instructor will create engaging lessons that promote academic growth, critical thinking, workplace readiness, and successful completion of the GED credential.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Connecticut Adult Education certification (107)
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
- Strong knowledge of GED subject areas including: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
Essential Functions
- Provide classroom instruction in Spanish for GED preparation courses in: English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
- Develop lesson plans aligned with GED standards and adult learning principles
- Assess student academic levels and monitor student progress regularly
- Prepare students for successful completion of the GED examination
- Differentiate instruction to meet the educational needs of diverse adult learners
- Integrate technology, digital literacy, and workforce readiness skills into instruction
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and student performance records
- Create a positive, respectful, and supportive classroom environment
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors, and support staff to improve student success
- Utilize instructional software and online learning platforms as required by the program
- Participate in professional development and staff meetings
- Encourage student persistence, retention, and transition to college or career pathways
Working Conditions, Physical And Mental Requirements
Employees appointed to positions in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the position.
