Responsibilities

• Takes on some responsibilities of the nursing department as delegated and provides assistance in its functioning.
• Assists in translating the nursing philosophy of the facility into nursing practice by participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing care delivery system.
• Supervises nursing functions effectively, with thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, and practices.
• Confers with the Director of Nursing to assess the quality of nursing care and identifies needs for improving or changing nursing practices.
• Assists with the development, direction, participation, and evaluation of the orientation program for nursing personnel; responsible for orienting new nursing employees in the absence of the Director of Staff Development.
• Makes daily rounds to evaluate resident care, monitor nursing practices, and assist personnel with nursing and educational needs.
• Ensures compliance with legal aspects of nursing practice, government regulations, and facility policies in teaching, supervision, and evaluation of resident care.
• Assists with on-site evaluation of employee performance, assesses needs for progressive disciplinary action, and participates in employee conferences as requested by the Director of Nursing.
• Prioritizes resident safety to minimize fire and accident risks; ensures facility adherence to legal, safety, health, fire, and sanitation codes, including familiarity with fire, safety, and disaster plans, and current MSDS.
• Assists with daily scheduling to maintain adequate and safe staffing levels within predetermined par level staffing ratios.

Requirements

• Must have an active RN license.
