About the Role
VOA-NCNN is recruiting for full-time Mentor positions for the Adolfo Housing Program at our Mather Community Campus. This role is responsible for the safety and security of clients and property, ensuring quality service to all program participants in a compassionate and professional manner while meeting program objectives. Mentors provide supportive interaction, act as role models, and maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain extensive knowledge of fire warning and suppression systems and evacuation procedures.
- Provide routine communication with the Program Supervisor regarding all responsibilities.
- Perform "awake" active/mobile shift coverage while maintaining grounds security.
- Maintain shift logs and complete incident reports as required.
- Prepare apartments for resident move-ins.
- Conduct hourly security checks during designated periods.
- Explain and enforce program rules and regulations.
- Transport or arrange transportation for clients; maintain the van (cleanliness, fuel, mileage logs, and report mechanical issues).
- Assist residents with minor problems and answer routine questions.
- Receive and process maintenance requests from clients.
- Check equipment in and out (e.g., vacuum cleaners), inspect for damage, and maintain as needed.
- Perform housekeeping and other maintenance tasks as required.
- Provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for residents.
- De-escalate crises and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality laws.
- Perform routine clerical duties as required.
- Assist with client development, addressing biological, psychological, or social issues that may promote disharmony or non-productive behavior.
- Support clients in pursuing educational, vocational, housing, and other goals.
- Assist with conflict resolution among clients when necessary.
- Role model positive attitudes and behaviors to help clients work toward self-sufficiency.
- Document all activities and interactions with residents in the Resident Log.
- Maintain daily program operations in compliance with company policies.
- Read and write in all logs daily.
- Monitor inventory of program equipment and supplies.
- Notify management of potential workflow problems or resource needs.
- Adhere to staffing schedules to ensure adequate and safe coverage.
- Maintain an above-average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards.
- Engage in self-development, continually enhancing technical and interpersonal skills.
- Maintain valid adult, child, and infant CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Attend staff meetings and assigned training; complete required certifications (CPR, First Aid, etc.).
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
- General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to foster youth, homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, and people with disabilities.
- Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients of varying needs and levels of functioning.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours and function as a team member.
- Valid California driver’s license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
- Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards.
- CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

Physical Requirements
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently.

Full-time employees (working 30 or more hours a week) are eligible for a benefits package that includes paid holidays, vacation, sick pay, health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance coverage.
Pay
USD $19.00 per hour.
