Location: Southern Maryland Hospital Center (Clinton, MD)

Department: Admitting & Discharge

Status: Per Diem (PRN)

Availability Needed: Evening Shift (2:30pm-11:00pm) both weekdays and weekends

Must be available for mandatory On-Site 'Invision' Class upon hire: Tuesday & Wednesday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

General Summary Of Position

Responsible for efficiently and accurately obtaining appropriate demographics signatures, completing all required forms, and providing patient information as required by state and federal regulations.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Greet everyone in a warm caring manner/tone, escort, console, and direct patients to the appropriate area of the hospital or department.
  • Acknowledge all patients and visitors by making eye contact, introducing self by name, smiling, and speaking appropriately.
  • Collect and capture accurate demographic and insurance information.
  • Makes sure all registration documents are distributed to the proper area.
  • Follow all EMTALA Joint Commission Medicare and HIPAA guidelines of patient information and consents.
  • Employ proper search criteria in order to obtain accurate Medical Record information per departmental guidelines.
  • Ensure that all patients are entered accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely manner in the computer.
  • Bed side registration if needed.
  • Verify insurance eligibility either by INVISION HDX software, telephone, or internet websites.
  • Complies with changes in duties and assignments in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Functions as a team member to organize and prioritize responsibilities to complete daily work requirements for the department in a timely manner.
  • Requests, collects, documents, and communicates payment requirements for co-pays and deductibles through US Bank.
  • Informs patients of their payment options including payment plans, financial assistance programs, and compassionate care programs.
  • Offers and acts on constructive feedback positively.
  • Contributes to group relations; uses open communication to identify and resolve problems in and between departments.
  • Communicates to the appropriate personnel irreconcilable differences or unprofessional behavior in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Adjusts to peaks in workload; demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Keeps work areas clean and clear of dust, trash, food, and drinks.
  • Keeps discussion of personal issues (i.e., personal plans, jokes, loud laughter, etc.) out of patient/family and public areas.
  • Notifies management of any delays and or problems with performing responsibilities.
  • Treats everyone in a caring and professional manner to foster a positive image of the hospital and instill confidence.
  • Provide and maintain patient privacy at all times.
  • Respect patient confidentiality by giving information only to those individuals who are authorized and have a need to know, never discuss patients in public area.
  • Resolve customer concerns or questions in a prompt and effective manner.
  • Give clear, accurate information to help them and or refer them to the appropriate medical or administrative personnel when necessary.
  • Perform all related job duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience: 1-2 years Experience working in a healthcare environment required
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
    • Ability to read, write, and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
    • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission, values, and commitment to compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory laws.
    • Ability to inspire trust and exhibit honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities.
    • Ability to interact professionally, courteously, and provide excellent customer service while interacting with patients, guests, and co-workers.
    • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
    • Ability to work/cover multiple areas of the department.

Pay

This position has a hiring range of USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
