Admissions Counselor Intern

Position Summary

The Admissions Counselor Intern represents the University of Oregon (UO) to multiple constituencies, including prospective students, their families, and school/community contacts. They develop and implement recruiting initiatives, conduct holistic reviews of freshman applications, and participate in extensive training related to the UO, admissions counseling, application review, and territory management.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Conduct scholarship review and other duties as assigned.

Additional Expectations

• Significant travel, often including locations not serviced by public transportation.
• Work irregular hours and travel extensively on nights and weekends.
• Requires a valid driver's license and UO Driver Certification.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from the UO awarded within the last two years or 30 days of hire.
• Prior experience representing the UO as a current student (Ambassador, Student Orientation Staff, etc.) or as a student leader in a paid or unpaid role.

Professional Competencies

• Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
• Ease in using technology for communication, record keeping, and management of data.
• Ability to function independently and self-motivate while working remotely.
• Ability to work in a collaborative and effective manner with students, alumni, diverse families, administrators, and faculty.
• Ability to work and communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to relate with prospective students via positive personal experiences from the student and campus community angles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multicultural recruitment or outreach programming.
• Interest in longer-term connections to admissions or other aspects of student affairs and enrollment management.
• Familiarity with the UO’s undergraduate student recruitment efforts.
• Proficiency or fluency in another language, such as Spanish.
