About the role
The Administrator of the Hospice House provides leadership and direction for all clinical and operational functions of the inpatient hospice facility. Reporting to the Vice President of External Services, the Administrator ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care consistent with Medicare CoPs, CHAP accreditation standards, state licensure, and organizational policies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all clinical operations within the hospice house, ensuring excellence in patient care and adherence to hospice philosophy.
- Ensures care is delivered in accordance with the hospice plan of care, patient goals, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
- Supports timely patient admissions, discharges, level-of-care changes, and coordination with referral sources.
- Lead QAPI initiatives, including clinical audits, incident review, and performance improvement plans.
- Audit interdisciplinary documentation to assure accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for Hospice House clinical staff.
- Maintain strong communication with patients, families, referral partners, and internal departments.
- Ensure appropriate level of care determinations (GIP vs routine) and accurate clinical documentation.
- Monitor census, referral trends, level of care utilization, and occupancy.
- Partners with business development and hospice leadership to support appropriate referrals and community relationships.
- Assists with budget planning, productivity expectations, and resource allocation.
- Ensure the facility remains compliant with hospice regulations, state licensure requirements, infection control standards, life safety requirements, and organizational policies.
- Facilitate communication between the Hospice House and the broader hospice program.
- Collaborate with pharmacy, DME, laboratory, dietary, facilities, housekeeping, and other support services as needed.
- Optimize bed utilization and drive Average Daily Census (ADC) growth through efficient intake and referral processes.
Requirements
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of Virginia.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of hospice, palliative care, home health, inpatient, or long-term care clinical experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of hospice regulations, end-of-life care, symptom management, and interdisciplinary care planning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage conflict, hold staff accountable, and drive performance improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze clinical, quality, staffing, and operational data.
- Strong computer skills, including Electronic Medical Records.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Must have experience with all types of office equipment; copier, fax, computers, multi-line phone system.
- Maintain current CPR certification.
- Flu-vaccinated.
