About the Role

This position is responsible for providing advanced professional accounting services and support to the University System of Georgia (USG) institutions. The role involves managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and providing guidance on accounting policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses for USG institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state regulations, and federal guidelines.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Provide guidance and training to institutional staff on accounting practices and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate and assist with external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Monitor and reconcile accounts, including general ledger, bank accounts, and investment accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and financial forecasts.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional accounting experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience with financial systems and software, including PeopleSoft or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, state accounting regulations, and federal financial guidelines.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
