The Administrative Assistant I in Counseling and Student Development (CASD) provides high-level administrative and technical support to student success services including Academic Advising, Counseling, Career Exploration, and First-Year Experience initiatives. This position requires strong organizational skills, confidentiality, and advanced computer competency. As part of a cross-trained support team, the role ensures smooth daily operations, contributes to student-centered service delivery, and provides backup coverage across CASD functions as needed.

  • Contributes to student-centered service delivery by supporting various student success initiatives.
  • Provides backup coverage across CASD functions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supports student success services including Academic Advising, Counseling, Career Exploration, and First-Year Experience initiatives.
  • Manages and coordinates multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinates responsibilities and operates as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Manages large amounts of information and files with an attention to detail.
  • Applies critical thinking skills and exercises appropriate judgment.
  • Works independently and takes initiative.
  • Communicates effectively in both the spoken and written word.
  • Works as part of a cross-trained team, and deals with students, faculty, staff, and public with knowledge, tact, and courtesy.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or four years of related administrative experience.
  • Two years of prior related office experience; such experience to include independent decision-making, problem solving, coordination of responsibilities, and the ability to function effectively in a complex high pressure, high volume environment.
  • Experience working with the standard office productivity software and electronic communication tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications

  • Three years of office experience in a higher education setting.
  • Prior work experience in a college environment.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Sedentary at times.
  • Ability to operate all standard computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to move around the office and the campus so as to carry out the essential duties of the job.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Three years of office experience in a higher education setting.
  • Prior work experience in a college environment.
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time regular position which supports a division with regular operational hours of 8:00 am to 7:00 pm.
  • Ability and willingness to work varying hours, including nights and weekends, to meet the operational needs of the department.
