Reports to: Principal

About the Role

To assist the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Counselors in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the school's office, contributing to the efficient operation of the district school office and supporting the educational program.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Computer experience and proficiency in word processing
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Maintains district's high standards for personal appearance and dress
  • Courteous and tactful in dealing with people; professional telephone manner
  • Professional attitude and appearance at all times
  • Able to work in Windows or current computer operating system
  • Familiar with Google, Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, SAMS, and MSIS
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (e.g., copier, adding machine, fax)
  • Uses appropriate grammar and syntax — verbal and written
  • Must complete fingerprinting process administered by district and pass background check prior to employment
  • Must fill out the Child Abuse Registry Check Form

Responsibilities

  • Protects the educational process at all times
  • Keeps all information relating to school situations strictly confidential
  • Performs general secretarial functions: copying, filing, mailing, faxing, typing documents/memos, delivering mail
  • Answers telephone and delivers messages to appropriate personnel
  • Updates SAMS/MSIS data daily as assigned by the Principal
  • Fulfills other school office functions as designated by the Principal or Assistant Principal
  • Obtains substitutes for teachers for professional leave, personal leave, or illness; maintains accurate attendance records
  • Maintains responsibility for any district-owned fixed asset assigned to the employee
  • Undergoes periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality and regular, dependable in-person attendance
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, or established by district policy
  • Reads, understands, and abides by Employee Conduct Policy, district, state, and federal policies, and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
  • Implements the established school-wide security plan
  • Communicates school and organizational goals to parents periodically throughout the school year
  • Promotes the district's vision, mission, and goals within the community
  • Participates in professional development activities to enhance personal skills
  • Studies and follows district policies applicable to school operations
  • Supervises and maintains upkeep and cleanliness of facilities
  • Follows any further rules or requirements set forth by the Principal

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach, crouch, or crawl
  • Must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision

Salary, days, and work year as established by the Lamar County Board of Education. Performance evaluation conducted in accordance with Mississippi Department of Education and Lamar County School Board policy.
