About the role

The Administrative Assistant 1 (AA1) provides high-level administrative and operational support to the Chief of Police and command staff, functioning with a high degree of independence and discretion. The position manages scheduling, communications, records, and office operations while ensuring compliance with SUNY and New York State requirements. It also supports fiscal processes, including procurement, payroll, and travel coordination, and handles sensitive law enforcement and personnel records. As a primary point of contact, the AA1 helps ensure efficient department operations and professional service to the campus community.

Responsibilities

  • Manages scheduling, communications, records, and office operations
  • Safeguards and maintains sensitive law enforcement and personnel records
  • Supports fiscal processes, including procurement, payroll, and travel coordination
  • Ensures compliance with SUNY and New York State requirements
  • Provides administrative support to the Chief of Police and command staff
  • Handles sensitive law enforcement and personnel records
  • Supports efficient department operations and professional service to the campus community

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Level: High School Diploma/GED
  • Experience Required: 2 years
  • You must also complete all mandatory and elective core coursework
  • Training: (e.g., IAAP Certified Administrative Professional) or associates degree* in office administration

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of SUNY and New York State policies and procedures
