Adjunct Spanish Professor

About the Role
The Foreign Language Department, part of the Communications Division, is seeking a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses. This position may involve serving as a substitute or teaching in-person and live online (Zoom) during summer, spring, or fall semesters, with day or evening classes. The successful applicant may teach the equivalent of 5–10 credit hours or serve as a substitute professor. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with full-time and adjunct faculty, contributing to departmental initiatives, and performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses in person and live online (Zoom).
- Provide extra- and co-curricular opportunities for Spanish language students.
- Participate in planning and administering departmental initiatives.
- Engage in on-campus events promoting languages.
- Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.
Requirements

- One letter of recommendation from a supervisor.
- One letter of recommendation from a colleague addressing language, teaching, and collaborative skills.
Qualifications
- M.A. degree in Spanish or an MA in a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in Spanish (as required by JCCC HLC criteria).
- Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of using technology in the classroom, including teaching online via Zoom or similar platforms.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or 4 years of high school teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of the climate of post-secondary institutions.
- Knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
- ACTFL (OPI) documentation of advanced mid or higher in Spanish.
- Ability to teach Chinese, German, Japanese, or French with HLC credentials.
- PhD in Spanish.
- Additional demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish language courses.
Pay
Starting salary range: $1,262–$1,404 per credit hour, determined based on relevant years of work experience and in accordance with the adjunct pay table.
