Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. SVCC serves the largest community college region in the state, covering ten counties and one city. Teach REL 100 Introduction to the Study of Religion. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that explores the idea of religion as a general category and the methodology of academic religious study. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Religious Studies or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams
• Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success

Additional Considerations

• Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities
• Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
• Experience working with community college students
• Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success
