About the role

We are seeking qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors in the Political Science department. The Adjunct Instructor Pool is for applicants interested in teaching part-time in the future. While there may not be an immediate opening, this pool allows department chairs to review applicant materials in advance and determine eligibility for future instructional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses, which may include day, night, and online classes, as well as instruction at the main campus and extension centers.
  • Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning.
  • Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, return graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assign final grades, meeting all institutional deadlines.
  • Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted office hours or by appointment.
  • Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and review feedback to assist with increasing student success.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science or 18 credits in the specific discipline.
  • Preference for teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
  • Experience with instructional technology is preferred.
  • Commitment to student recruitment, retention, and success.
  • Ability to assess learning, develop curriculum, and use instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology.

Mental and Physical Demands

  • Detailed work, student contact, deadline-oriented tasks, and handling multiple priorities and demands.
  • Ability to manage problem situations, emergency situations, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Frequent interruptions, working with others, and occasional faculty contact.
  • Primarily sedentary work involving sitting, with occasional talking, hearing, and speaking in English via phone or in person.
  • Close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, along with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Normal office environment with minimal discomfort due to heat, dust, or noise.
  • Ability to travel to all campus locations as required.
