Adjunct Pool Music Instructor

Muskegon Community College, an associate degree-granting institution of higher education, is a center for lifelong learning which provides a person the opportunity to attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs.

We are seeking qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors. The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants who are interested in teaching in the future as a part-time adjunct instructor. The pools are always open for applications, but this does not guarantee an immediate opening. Department chairs review applicant materials in advance to determine eligibility for their pool of approved candidates. If a part-time instructional need arises, the department chair will first consider approved applicants before scheduling interviews.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses, which may include day, night, and online classes at the main campus and extension centers. Classes must meet on time for the full allotted duration.
• Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.
• Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning.
• Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, return graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assign final grades, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines.
• Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted office hours or by appointment.
• Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and review results to assist with increasing student success.
• Maintain professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in the discipline or 18 credits in the specific discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
• Experience with instructional technology preferred.
• Commitment to student recruitment, retention, and success; assessment of learning; development of curriculum; and use of instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology.
• Willingness to work a varied schedule.
• Commitment to student success and the comprehensive community college concept.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to access and use electronic resources, including email, the Internet, and the college’s integrated database record-keeping system.
