Adjunct Microbiology Instructor

About the role

We are seeking qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors. The Adjunct Instructor Pools are for applicants interested in teaching in the future as a part-time adjunct instructor. The pools are always open for applications, but this does not guarantee an immediate opening. Department chairs review applicant materials in advance to determine eligibility for their pool of approved candidates. If a part-time instructional need arises, the department chair will first consider approved applicants.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses, which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as at the main campus and extension centers. Classes must meet on time for the full allotted time.
• Establish and promote an effective learning environment that maximizes documented student learning.
• Prepare, submit, and maintain reports related to student learning.
• Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, return graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assign final grades for all students, meeting or beating all institutional deadlines for completion.
• Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted office hours or by appointment.
• Encourage student opinion survey completion for each class and review summary information to assist with increasing student success.
• Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Biology or a related subject area, or 18 credits in the specific discipline.
• Preferred: Teaching experience at the college level.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
• Experience with instructional technology is preferred.
• Committed to student recruitment, retention, and success; assessment of learning; development of curriculum; and use of instructional delivery modes utilizing both traditional and non-traditional methodology.

• Detailed work, student contact, deadline-oriented tasks, problem-solving, handling multiple priorities and demands, emergency situations, confidentiality, continual interruptions, working with others, and faculty contact.
• Primarily sedentary work: sitting, talking, hearing, and speaking in English via phone or in person.
• Requires close, distance, peripheral, and color vision along with depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
• Normal office environment with minimal discomfort due to heat, dust, or noise.
• Ability to travel to all campus locations required.
